Popular ‘Cabin Fever’ party a big smash!!

The Rockford American Legion once again hosted the ever popular ‘Cabin Fever’ night on January 16, 2016. “We were privileged to have ‘Mid-Life Crisis’ (www.mlcband.com) back with us to rock Cabin Fever VII”, said Terri Huffman, Manager of Post 102. This is the seventh consecutive year that the Cabin Fever fundraiser was held and it will benefit ‘The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans’ and ongoing Veterans activities at the Rockford Post.
The ‘Grand Rapids Home for Veterans’ (GRHV) is a long-term care, state veterans home, located on Monroe Ave NE, near the Grand River. It was originally constructed on that property in 1885 and is one of 143 state veterans’ homes throughout the nation. Initially founded in response to the needs of veterans in the aftermath of the Civil War, GRHV continues the tradition of serving the needs of Michigan’s veterans today, changing and adapting to the needs of the current and future veteran populations. Veterans at the GRHV have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of fun and therapeutic activities, both on site and throughout the community. Your Rockford American Legion, its Legion, Sons of the American Legion (SAL), the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Legion Riders members, volunteer their time to the GRHV. “We are committed to ensuring our veterans at the GRHV continue to have numerous opportunities to participate in spiritual, social, recreational and educational activities, both on-site and in the surrounding communities” said Steve Gerencer, co-chair of the event. He went on to say that the importance of conducting these types of events at the Rockford Post could not be understated, “we have a wonderful venue that we will continue to use for the support of all of our Veterans.”
Mid-Life Crisis is a popular 5-piece West Michigan band that has been rocking crowds for 14 years. Loving music from the 60’s and 70’s, they have opened for many national bands such as ZZ Top, Cheap Trick, Eddie Money, Kansas and many others. MLC has a very large West Michigan following, and has been named “Best Band in Grand Rapids” six years in a row by the Grand Rapids Magazine. They have earned three “Golden Townie” Awards for best band in Grand Rapids by On-The-Town Magazine. MLC has also been named “Best Band in Grand Rapids” by the Grand Rapids Press Readers Poll. Their music has been nominated for 2 Jammie
Awards by WYCE Radio. “Get ready to dance – This was a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with what is arguably the best band in West Michigan” said Gerencer.
